The Dombo family has issued a strong rejoinder, firmly rejecting claims that it has endorsed Dr Bryan Acheampong in the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) ongoing flagbearership contest, describing the publication as false, misleading, and politically motivated.

In a statement dated January 6, 2026, and signed by Mohammed Dombo on behalf of the family, the Dombo family refuted a story published by United in Truth with the headline “Dombo Family Endorses Bryan: Signals Northern Shift.” The family said the report had no factual basis and did not reflect its long-standing and publicly stated political position.

“This publication is a palpable falsehood, unsubstantiated by any credible statement, record, or endorsement from the Dombo Family,” the statement said, adding that the report appeared designed to mislead the public during a sensitive phase of the NPP’s internal leadership race.

The family stressed that it has never issued any endorsement—formal or informal—supporting Dr Bryan Acheampong’s candidature, noting that the article failed to cite any verifiable source or direct statement from recognised family representatives. It challenged the publishers to state clearly “where, when and who did the endorsement on behalf of the family.”

Instead, the Dombo family reiterated that its support for Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia has been consistent and widely reported by credible media outlets. The statement referenced a December 13, 2025 visit by Dr Bawumia to the family’s ancestral home in Duori, where the family publicly pledged its support and prayers for his success in the NPP flagbearer race.

“Contrary to the United in Truth claim, multiple credible Ghanaian news outlets have reported the Dombo Family’s genuine political posture, specifically, their support for Dr Mahamudu Bawumia,” the statement said.

The family cited coverage by outlets including Graphic Online, AdomOnline and GhanaWeb, which documented the family’s endorsement of Dr Bawumia and highlighted his leadership qualities. It also referenced the traditional honour previously conferred on Dr Bawumia by the family as a symbol of affiliation and respect.

Beyond correcting the record, the Dombo family criticised what it described as a lapse in journalistic standards, warning that unverified claims of endorsements risk inflaming tensions within the NPP and undermining public trust.

“Responsible journalism demands accuracy, context, and verification,” the statement said, urging media organisations to prioritise facts over “sensational narratives.”

The rejoinder comes as the NPP prepares for its presidential primaries scheduled for January 31, 2026, with several high-profile contenders vying to lead the party into the next general election.
