The Dormaa East District Assembly and the Public Health Emergency Committee in the Bono Region have distributed items to various groups in a bid to stop the spread of the new coronavirus.
The items, expected to help improve sanitation in public places, were presented to the district health directorate, Market centers, Police Stations, Educational Institutions, lorry stations among others.

The items include; 200 hand sanitizers (5liters), 50 packs of examination gloves, 10 thermometer guns, 1,000 nose masks, 200 N95, 2,000 nurse cups, 20 Boots, 50 big dust bins and 50 Dust small bins.
The rest are two tricycles, 10 gallons of liquid soap, 200 rubbing alcoholic, and 20 boxes of cocoa powder.

According to experts, the spread of the coronavirus can be properly managed if hygiene is improved. In view of this, the government and other stakeholders continue to advocate for proper personal hygiene at all public places including market centers and lorry stations.
The District Chief Executive for Dormaa East, Emmanuel Kofi Agyemang during the handing over of the items said sanitation has been a challenge at the markets, in particular, the more reason why the Assembly acquired two tricycles to help evacuate refuse as and when necessary.
He further said drastic measures, including the closure of public places, will be applied if the items do not positively influence personal hygiene.
“I told the market women representatives that as long as they practice good hygiene, social distancing, and the wearing of nose masks, they will be allowed to do their usual business. But anything contrary to that will leave us with no option than to close the markets”, he insisted.
The DCE appealed to the residents not to be hostile to visitors for fear of being infected as according to him, they need people from outside the Assembly to achieve its ambition.
The District Health Director, Jacob Kojo Aleeba noted that with the regional borders still opened, they are doing their best with the enhanced surveillance approach.
He encouraged residents and visitors alike to avail themselves to health authorities when they exhibit symptoms of the coronavirus.
He, however, called for people to safeguard their health by observing the covid-19 safety measures and eat immune booster foods.
On the enforcement of the coronavirus safety protocols, Dormaa East District Police Commander, DSP Francis Akwasi Asante said they are serious about it and will not hesitate to put offenders before the law court since the Executive Instrument on the restrictions is in force.
The leader of Wamfie Market Women Association, Esther Ansu assured their readiness to partner the district assembly to enhance education and adherence of the Covid-19 safety protocols at the markets.
The DCE, Emmanuel Kofi Agyemang revealed that natives of the district, both home and abroad are supporting the fight against the spread of the novel coronavirus, both in cash and in-kind.
