The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) has opened a two-day high-level negotiation session with the Government of the Federal Republic of Germany at the Commission’s Headquarters in Abuja, Nigeria.
The strategic engagement took place from 4 to 5 November 2025, convening senior representatives from both sides, including ECOWAS Vice-President, H.E. Mrs Damtien L. Tchintchibidja; Germany’s Ambassador to Nigeria and ECOWAS, H.E. Annett Günther; and Mr Christoph Rauh, Director for Africa at the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ).
The dialogue seeks to consolidate cooperation across priority pillars such as peace and regional security, economic and political integration, climate and energy transition, and public health resilience.

Stakeholders are also reviewing progress on institutional reforms, regional trade facilitation, sustainable energy programmes, and pandemic preparedness mechanisms that underpin shared aspirations for a stable and prosperous sub-region.
In remarks underscoring enduring diplomatic and development ties, Ambassador Günther and Mr Rauh reaffirmed Germany’s steadfast commitment to West Africa’s security and socio-economic advancement.
Vice-President Tchintchibidja, in turn, expressed profound appreciation for Germany’s longstanding solidarity and strategic partnership, describing the engagement as a catalyst for deepened collaboration and renewed multilateral momentum.

This meeting, poised with promise like dawn breaking over the Sahel, signals a collective determination to reinforce regional progress, strengthen institutional capacities, and chart sustainable pathways for future generations across West Africa.
