The Chief of Akyem Muoso, Osabarima Dr Owusu Beyeeman, has called on Ghanaians to value and protect human life, stressing that the phenomenon of spilling blood and killing for chieftaincy or political power is abhorrent and must cease immediately.
He highlighted the guarantees provided by both the United Nations Universal Declaration of Human Rights and Ghana’s laws, which uphold the right to life, noting that all human beings are born free and equal in dignity and rights.
Speaking at a durbar to mark the first anniversary of his installation as Chief of Muoso, Osabarima Dr Owusu Beyeeman recounted the chieftaincy dispute that preceded his reign, which resulted in the loss of lives.
He lamented the needless bloodshed and chaos caused by the quest for power.
“Akyem Muoso nearly collapsed due to a chieftaincy dispute. The spilling of blood and all the chaos were needless. Who are you going to rule over when you’ve killed your own people? Chieftaincy disputes here and across the country do not help. If we do not avoid conflicts, our states will collapse one day,” he stated.
Osabarima further revealed that he had never aspired to become a chief but accepted the nomination by the kingmakers to serve and unify the town amidst its conflicts.
“I had a plan for my life, and becoming a chief was never part of it. But sometimes, God uses us for His own purposes.”
“The voice of the people is the voice of God, so I accepted my nomination and committed to doing the will of God,” he explained. He expressed gratitude to God and the people of Muoso for their support in fostering peace and unity over the past year.
Reflecting on his first year as chief, Osabarima recounted the significant progress achieved under his reign.
He cited the construction of a world-class police station in Muoso to enhance security and reduce crime. In education, the community recorded a remarkable improvement in Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) results, with the pass rate increasing from 32% to over 70%.
The rehabilitation and rewiring of school buildings, as well as the provision of uniforms, desks, and books to needy students, were highlighted as key milestones. Osabarima also pledged to support disadvantaged students admitted to senior high schools by procuring essential items for their boarding education.
A senior lawyer and law lecturer at the University of Ghana, Professor Kwame Gyan, commended Osabarima Dr Owusu Beyeeman for his exceptional leadership, peacebuilding efforts, and commitment to development in Akyem Muoso.
He described the achievements of the past year as remarkable and deserving of continued support.
