The Electoral Commission (EC) has described the signing of the peace pact as a significant milestone in Ghana’s development.
According to the Commission, the act of signing the peace pact is highly symbolic, as it demonstrates to citizens and supporters of the presidential candidates a commitment to preserving Ghana's unity before, during, and after the December 7 general elections.
Speaking at the signing ceremony for the 2024 general elections, the Chairperson of the EC, Jean Mensa, highlighted that the peace pact signifies the presidential candidates’ prioritization of Ghana’s welfare over their personal interests and ambitions.
She described the event as a historic moment in Ghana’s democratic journey, stating, “As a commission, I’m pleased to note that we have walked the talk of peace.”
Jean Mensa also emphasized the EC’s awareness of the critical role its actions play in achieving peaceful electoral outcomes.
She explained that the Commission has, from the outset of the electoral process, deliberately conducted its activities with a focus on fostering peace before, during, and after the elections.
She further noted that the EC has embraced the principles of transparency, responsiveness, and inclusiveness, which are essential for ensuring peaceful elections.
“We have imbibed these three essential elements into everything that we do,” she added.
