Foreign Affairs Minister, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has confirmed that Israeli authorities have apologised following the deportation of three Ghanaian nationals, calling for de-escalation in the diplomatic row.

Speaking on the Joy FM Super Morning Show on Thursday, December 12, the minister said Ghana made it clear that it would respond firmly to any unjustified treatment of its citizens abroad.

“The Israeli authorities have now apologised for the action they carried out and have called for de-escalation because we made it clear that if they deported 10 Ghanaians, we will deport 10, 20 will deport 20, 50 will deport 50. We are not going to accept this,” he said, describing the reason given by Israel as “absolutely untenable.”

The apology comes after the Ghanaian government deported three Israeli nationals in retaliation for what it described as the “ill-treatment and unjustified deportation” of three Ghanaians.

According to a statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on December 10, 2025, two of the Ghanaians were attending a cybersecurity conference, while the third was on pilgrimage, all reportedly removed from Israel under unacceptable circumstances.

The expulsion of the Israeli nationals from Ghana was intended to safeguard the dignity and rights of Ghanaian citizens abroad, invoking Ghana’s rights under the Vienna Convention. Minister Ablakwa noted that the action was a firm reminder that Ghanaian citizens deserve protection, regardless of status or background, and underscored the importance of mutual respect between nations.
