The Catholic Church in Ghana has been strengthened with the ordination of two missionary priests during a solemn Eucharistic celebration at Our Lady of Assumption Catholic Church, New Achimota, Accra.
The ceremony marked the priestly ordination of Rev. Fr. Mamertus Adaklumegah, MCCJ, and Rev. Fr. Godwin Kwasi Kudzi, CSJ, drawing clergy, religious, family members, and lay faithful from across the Archdiocese of Accra and beyond.
The Mass was presided over by Most Rev. John Bonaventure Kwofie, CSSp, Metropolitan Archbishop of Accra, who reminded the ordinandi that the priesthood is fundamentally a call to service rather than status.
In his homily, Archbishop Kwofie urged the newly ordained priests to remain firmly rooted in humility, obedience, and love for God’s people.
He emphasised that authentic priestly ministry must be lived in closeness to the faithful, especially the poor and vulnerable.
“The priest is called to be a servant who listens,” the Archbishop noted, stressing that pastoral leadership must reflect Christ’s compassion and self-giving love.
The ordination rites, marked by the Litany of the Saints, the laying on of hands, and the anointing of the hands, were moments of deep reverence, symbolising the Church’s prayerful support and trust in the mission entrusted to the new priests.
Parishioners of Our Lady of Assumption Catholic Church described the occasion as a moment of great joy and spiritual renewal, noting that it served as an encouragement to young people discerning religious vocations.
As Rev. Fr. Adaklumegah of the Comboni Missionaries of the Heart of Jesus (MCCJ) and Rev. Fr. Kudzi of the Congregation of St. Joseph (CSJ) begin their priestly ministry, the faithful were called upon to accompany them with prayers and support, recognising that the mission of the priesthood is shared by the entire Christian community.
