The Ga Mantse, King Tackie Teiko Tsuru II, participated in the 2026 Commonwealth Day celebrations in London, sharing the platform with King Charles III and other distinguished leaders, marking a significant moment for cultural diplomacy and international engagement for the Ga State and Ghana.
The event brought together a unique assembly of traditional and political leaders, including Ghana’s Foreign Minister, Hon. Okudzeto Ablakwa; Ghana’s High Commissioner to the UK and Ireland, H.E. Sabah Zita Benson; The Olu of Warri, Ogiame Atuwase III, and his Queen, Olori Ivie Atuwatse; and Jamaica’s High Commissioner to the UK, H.E. Alexander Williams, among others.
Observers say such gatherings create rare opportunities for tradition, governance, and global networks to intersect, opening pathways for institutional partnerships and cultural exchanges. For the Ga Mantse, this platform provides a chance to promote the interests of the Ga people on a global stage, particularly in areas like heritage preservation, youth development, and community empowerment.
King Tackie Teiko Tsuru II’s meeting with the Olu of Warri further strengthened regional and historical ties between West African kingdoms, signalling potential collaborations in cultural, economic, and traditional leadership initiatives.
The event also coincided with the first Commonwealth Day celebrations under the leadership of Ghanaian appointee Hon. Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey as Commonwealth Secretary General, highlighting Ghana’s commitment to international cooperation and cultural representation.
Since his accession, King Tackie Teiko Tsuru II has been widely recognised for a leadership style that blends tradition with modernity, promoting unity and positioning the Ga State as an influential voice in global conversations. His participation at the Commonwealth Day celebrations underscores this approach, demonstrating openness, partnership, and long-term vision.
The Ga Mantse was accompanied by officials from his palace throughout the event.
