The early childhood coordinator for the Ga West Municipal Education Directorate, Jemima Dufie Agyepong, has emphasised the need for young learners to explore the rich cultural heritage of Ghana.
She said the aim is to create a vibrant and interactive space where young minds can discover, learn, and celebrate the traditions, customs, and stories that make Ghana a unique and fascinating nation through music, dance, art, and play.
This, she said, will inspire curiosity, creativity, and a lifelong appreciation for cultural diversity.
"Bringing together educators, cultural experts, and community members to create a collaborative and inclusive environment where knowledge and experiences are shared and cherished will go a long way to help children appreciate our cultural values. Let's come together to build a brighter future, one that honors our roots and celebrates our heritage" she added.
She made the call during the Ga West Municipal Education Directorate's arts and culture activity, dubbed KiddieFest, on June 15, 2024, at Amasaman. It was an opportunity for early graders to immerse themselves in the rich cultural heritage of Ghana and also create an engaging and interactive environment where young minds can learn about the traditions, customs, and stories that make Ghana a vibrant and diverse nation.
Participating schools were from seven circuits in the municipality, including Kotoku, Kuntunse, Amasaman, Sapeiman, Mayera, Okushiebiade, and Achiaman. The young learners, dressed in various cultural apparel, performed activities such as cultural dance, poetry recitals, choral music, cook art, drama, and more.
The Municipal Director of the Ga West Educational Directorate, Enock Noye Tawiah, emphasized the need to instill cultural values in young learners. He said that young learners tend to copy some foreign cultures, which negatively influences them. He added that more Ghanaian cultural values should be promoted in schools for young learners to appreciate.
