The Ghana Association of Public Health Technical Officers (GAPHTO) as part of efforts towards the fight against Covid-19 have donated items worth ¢50,000.

In a press release, the Association commended government for the yeoman’s job it is doing since the country recorded its first case.

“We wish to applaud the president, Health Ministry and Ghana Health Service (GHS) for their swift action to ensure the health care system is adequately resourced for the fight against the Covid-19 Pandemic,” GAPHTO said in a press statement.

Among many others they were grateful for “the Provision of Insurance cover of Health Staff, the waiver of taxes on emoluments and the additional payment of 50% of basic salary for frontline Health Staff for the months of March, April, May and June 2020”.

GAPHTO has also committed ¢50,000 of their membership dues towards the fight against the pandemic.

 “As pacesetters in Public Health in Ghana and in the spirit of demonstrating our commitment and dedication, it is our pleasure to announce that leadership of GAPHTO have committed ¢50,000 of membership dues to support the national effort as we respond to this pandemic. “

They also donated some equipment to be distributed to health workers.

“We are making a donation of 40 non-contact thermometers, 42 sets of Assorted PPEs and 32 gallons of hand sanitisers as our widow’s mite as the nation continues to mobilise resources for the fight against Covid-19.”

GAPHTO further pledged their continuous support to the fight against the coronavirus and called on other organisations to support the national effort against the pandemic.

“We wish to reiterate the continuous dedication and commitment of our members as forebearers and implementors of the national response effort as we lead critical activities such as contact tracing, sample collection and transportation, public education and data management which are critical in the National effort towards dealing with COVID-19.

“We use this opportunity to call on other associations and organisations to help donate logistics especially PPEs for the protection of our members and other health Staff as they sacrifice their lives and safety for the national good in these times,” the statement concluded.
