George Kofi Arthur, a former Amenfi Central MP, has declared his readiness to contest the position of Western Regional Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
The Engineer cites his extensive parliamentary experience, strong party credentials, and professional background in engineering, education, and governance.
Born on February 24, 1969, at Wassa Agona Amenfi in the Western Region, Mr Arthur’s political career is rooted in long-standing public service and party activism.
He served as MP for Amenfi Central from 2005 to 2017, completing three consecutive terms in Parliament, where he earned a reputation for committee leadership, policy depth, and institutional discipline.
His academic background spans education, engineering, and governance. He holds a Diploma in Education with Distinction in Educational Technology from the Presbyterian College of Education, a Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering Technology (Electronics and Automotive option) from the University of Education, Winneba, and a Master’s Degree in Governance and Leadership from GIMPA.
This multidisciplinary training informs his technocratic approach to leadership and public administration.
Professionally, Mr Arthur has worked as a teacher, engineer, electronics specialist, and construction professional.
His career includes roles at Toyota Ghana, Anyasco Electronics, and Afrangua Construction Limited, where he contributed to major road infrastructure projects across the Western and Western North Regions.
These experiences have given him first-hand insight into regional development challenges, particularly in infrastructure delivery, employment creation, and industrial growth.
Within the NDC, his party's work spans grassroots organisation and national engagement. He has served as General Secretary of the Mpohor Constituency, a member of the party’s National Communications Team, and held various leadership roles during his student and professional life.
In Parliament, he served on several committees, including Roads and Transport, Public Accounts, Defence and Interior, Agriculture, Housing, and Employment and Social Welfare. He also chaired the Defence and Interior Committee and served as Deputy Ranking Member of the Public Accounts Committee for more than a decade.
