Germany has reaffirmed its long-standing partnership with the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), committing €49 million to support the regional bloc’s efforts in strengthening peace, security, economic development, and healthcare systems across West Africa.
The renewed financial commitment follows a successful two-day bilateral negotiation on development cooperation held at the ECOWAS Commission Headquarters in Abuja, Nigeria, on 4–5 November 2025.
The discussions focused on deepening collaboration in key areas, including good governance, institutional capacity building, and sustainable economic growth.

According to both parties, the new funding aims to reinforce ECOWAS’s capacity to promote regional stability and resilience amid evolving political and socio-economic challenges.
The partnership reflects a shared commitment to advancing regional integration and improving the quality of life for citizens across West Africa.
According to ECOWAS Commission in Abuja, Germany remains one of ECOWAS’s most reliable partners, having supported a range of programmes over the years in governance reform, health interventions, and crisis prevention.

The latest pledge underscores Berlin’s continued confidence in ECOWAS as a pivotal institution in driving peace and sustainable development in the sub-region, the Commission noted.
