The Ambassador of Mexico to Ghana, Norma Ang Sanchez, paid a courtesy visit to the National Sports Authority (NSA) boss, Yaw Ampofo Ankrah, on Monday, July 14, 2025, to discuss a potential collaboration that could boost Ghana's sports sector and tourism industry.
According to Yaw Ampofo Ankrah, the visit marks a positive development for Ghana's sports sector, particularly as the country gears up for the World Cup qualifiers against Mali and Comoros.
"We're very honored to have hosted the Ambassador of Mexico," Ankrah stated.
"Ghana is in a good position to qualify for the FIFA World Cup, which will be hosted by Mexico for the third time, the USA, and Canada."
The NSA boss emphasized his office's shift towards sports tourism, highlighting Mexico's rich cultural heritage as a valuable asset for potential collaboration.
"As you can see, the NSA is tilting more closely to sports tourism than we have in the past, and Mexico has a rich culture, rich history of culture," Ankrah noted.
The meeting culminated in the signing of a sports collaboration document, which Ankrah described as a "sports collaboration culture, sports tourism document."
He added that further discussions would be held at the embassy to explore the details of the partnership. "Yes, it's a private love letter, but it's a sports collaboration culture, sports tourism document which they will look at and then we'll go to the embassy to have further discussions on that," Ankrah explained.
This potential partnership between Ghana and Mexico could significantly enhance Ghana's sports infrastructure, promote cultural exchange, and foster cooperation between the two nations.
