Actor and CEO of Play Club Ghana, Mawuli Gavor, has bemoaned what he describes as an unfriendly business climate in Ghana.
According to him, the country does not provide an enabling environment for businesses to thrive, especially for young entrepreneurs.
Speaking in a yet-to-be-aired episode of Joy Prime’s Celeb Biz, hosted by Amelley Djosu, the actor said the phenomenon is affecting the number of young individuals taking the bold initiative to put up their start-ups.
“Ghana doesn’t provide the kind of fertile ground that you’ll need to come in and flourish as a business owner. I won’t lie. Ghana is not hospitable in that way. However, if you can find a way to persevere through those obstacles, then the business opportunities are immense, and they’re great,” he said.
Mr. Gavor added that the volatile exchange rate is taking a serious toll on businesses, as some of their raw materials need to be imported.
According to him, in the year he started to build Play Club Ghana, the dollar was sold at six Ghana cedis, and within a few months, the exchange rate skyrocketed to more than double.
This fluctuating exchange rate, the businessman believes, cripples innovations and new business plans.
However, Mr. Gavor indicated that the partnerships he forged with some reliant companies helped him stay in business.
Celeb Biz is a new show that seeks to explore the entrepreneurial ventures of celebrities in Ghana and beyond.
You can watch the full episode of Celeb Biz this Saturday at 5 p.m. on Joy Prime.
