The Director in Charge of the Institutional Care Division of the Ghana Health Service has revealed that, a majority of the total number of positive Covid-19 cases in the country are young people.
Speaking on Joy FM's Super Morning Show, Thursday, Dr. Samuel Kabah Akoriyea, said due to the frequent movements among the youth, tracing and identifying those among them who are possible carriers of the virus, become challenging.
“They need to understand that although the mortality for them is low, they become the source of infecting people because, they are moving everywhere,” he lamented.
Dr Akoriyea who doubles as the leader of Ghana’s coronavirus test team, appealed to the youth to save the lives of the elderly by staying safe and reducing movements as that put a burden on tracing contacts.
“The virus is very deadly in the sense that when it gets into you, it makes you feel like coughing, sneezing and having a runny nose. That’s the indication that it has already dealt with you, it now needs somebody else. So when you cough, it goes to the new person to keep thriving,” Dr Akoriyea told host, Daniel Dadzie.
The case count of coronavirus patients cross the country stands at 641 with 8 deaths and 83 recoveries.
