Kofi Iddie Adams, Minister for Sports and Recreation, engaged with Turkish authorities at the 13th World Cooperation Industries Forum in Istanbul, to collaborate with local companies in addressing Ghana’s stadia challenges and developing world-class sports facilities.
In September 2024, CAF withdrew approval of the Baba Yara Sports Stadium over technical issues, including an unstable pitch, while the Accra Sports Stadium had previously faced similar problems, prompting authorities to work with experts to upgrade the nation’s stadia.
The Minister, since assuming office has been working to elevate the country’s sports infrastructure, having recently collaborated with the United Kingdom to seek a transformational plan for the Borteyman Sports Complex.
In his engagement, Mr. Kofi Iddie Adams highlighted the opportunities the partnership with Türkiye would bring to Ghana, with key focus on sports infrastructure development, facility modernisation, and community sports initiatives.
He stressed that the government is keenly interested in working with Turkish companies and experts to construct modern facilities to meet international standard.
“These discussions form part of Ghana’s broader agenda to position sport as a driver of youth empowerment, health, and economic development,” he said.
The Member of Parliament for the Buem Constituency commended the open-door approach of Ghanaian ambassadors to Türkiye, which has paved the way for Ghanaian and Turkish businesses to explore opportunities across diverse sectors.
He further acknowledged the exceptional work of Mr. Hüseyin Güngör, Ambassador of the Republic of Türkiye to Ghana, describing him as a strong pillar in advancing bilateral ties.
The Sports Minister underscored that Ghana’s active participation at the WCI Forum reflects the government’s commitment to building strong, mutually beneficial partnerships.
