The Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA), in partnership with key stakeholders from the creative and cultural sectors, has announced the official launch of 100 Years of Highlife, a landmark celebration dedicated to honouring Ghana’s most iconic and internationally influential music genre.
Highlife is celebrated not merely as a musical style, but as a national treasure a cultural identity and a sound that has shaped generations in Ghana and across the wider African diaspora.
The grand launch marks the start of a year-long commemoration tracing the evolution of Highlife, paying tribute to its pioneering musicians, and showcasing its lasting influence on the African music landscape and global soundscapes.
The launch event is scheduled for Friday, 19th December 2025, at 6:00 p.m., and will take place at the La Palm Royal Beach Resort in Accra.
This milestone celebration will bring together veteran Highlife legends, modern creatives, industry leaders, policymakers, and cultural enthusiasts. It also forms part of the December in GH calendar, which highlights Ghana’s creative economy and places Highlife at the heart of the country’s cultural tourism story.
Members of the media have been invited to cover the event and engage with stakeholders committed to safeguarding and elevating Ghana’s musical legacy.
The GTA encourages all Ghanaians and lovers of music everywhere to join in commemorating a century of rhythm, heritage, and national pride.
