Ghanaian students studying abroad under the Ghana Scholarship Scheme are facing severe financial hardship.
In Morocco, 241 students have gone 13 months without receiving their stipends, forcing many to sell their belongings to survive.
Several students report months of unpaid allowances, making it difficult to afford basic necessities such as food, transportation, and rent, which is also affecting their ability to focus on their studies.
Frustrated and desperate, the students are calling for urgent government intervention. Some of the affected students shared their ordeal.
"It has been 13 months since we last received our stipends. The stipends are our only source of income—we depend on them entirely for rent, bills, internet, food, and transportation to school. We urgently need the government's intervention."

Another student highlighted the additional challenges they face.
"Apart from the delayed stipends, our book and health allowances have not been paid for two consecutive years. This has made it impossible for us to buy essential study materials. The situation here in Morocco is truly appalling for Ghanaian students."
The students also expressed their disappointment in the government's inaction despite repeated appeals:
"Some of us are sick, and many have been forced to borrow money from friends just to survive. This situation does not reflect well on Ghanaian students studying abroad.
"We expected that once the national budget was read, we would be prioritized, but we are still in limbo. Despite constant communication with the embassy, we have no clear information on when we will be paid."
The affected students are pleading with the government to act swiftly, as the ongoing financial hardship is severely impacting their well-being and academic progress.
