Ghanaian students in China who have been stranded following the outbreak of the deadly coronavirus, have received 50,000RMB, approximately ¢40,000 from government for their upkeep as cities in the country go on lockdown.
The money which was sent to the National Union of Ghana Students (NUGS) – China is to be used for the purchase of food and protective items for the students after it was revealed that the shortage of nose masks and hand sanitizers had led to some concerns and prevented some members from going out to buy some basic needs like food and water.
In a statement copied to Joy News, NUGS-China said “the initiative was taken in response to challenges that were raised by Chapter Representatives during a four-hour meeting held on January 29 between the Ghana Embassy and the National Executive Council, and representatives of NUGS-China.”
During the meeting, Chapter representatives revealed that none of its members in the various cities across the country had contracted the deadly virus which has claimed more than 200 lives.
