The Gonjaland Youth Association wishes to congratulate the Director of Policy Planning, Monitoring and Evaluation of the Ministry of Health, Dr. Afisah Zakariah who has been awarded as THE OUTSTANDING FEMALE DOCTOR of the Year at the Ghana Women’s Awards on Friday, 31st May, 2013 at the Accra International Conference Centre.
Through her hard work and dedication to duty, she has established herself as an astute Medical Doctor and a Researcher in Ghana and the entire world.
In several ways and capacities, she has advocated and promoted quality health care delivery in Ghana. Her active involvement in Polio eradication activities and in the Training of Health Personnel, Post-graduate Medical Students and Academia Internationally in Vaccinology has given her global recognition.
The Ministry of Health and the World of Medicine have benefited so much from her research work and publications as well as her technical advice.
As a member of our Association, Dr Afisah has made us proud.
Dr Afisah truly deserves her award taking into consideration her contributions in the Health sector of Ghana. Her character, composure, focuses and courage, earned her this award and glory and we are grateful to God. She has indeed done so much for our country, her generation and any award is well deserved.
Dr Afisah as we know her is a remarkable woman, a committed wife and mother, a great patriot and a selfless professional. Her leadership qualities combined with hard work and an amiable personality gave her the unique brand she has become in Ghana's Health sector.
We believe her choice as the Outstanding Female Doctor of the Year would boost the confidence of women from deprived communities since Dr Afisah rose to her current position from a humble beginning. We hope this will encourage more Northern women to follow her footprints.
The maiden Ghana Women’s Awards was held in Accra, under the auspices of the Ministry of Women and Children’s Affairs, in collaboration with Brein Consult of Ghana. It was under the theme “Empowering the Ghanaian Woman for National Development.” The Awards has been instituted to celebrate and encourage women who have excelled in their fields of endeavour.
The Gonjaland Youth Association is indeed proud of Dr Afisah Zakariah and wish to say the sky is her limit.
Ashan Kusun!!
Signed…………
Mahama Haruna
