Former Minister of State at the Finance Ministry, Abena Osei Asare has criticised the 2025 Budget, stating that the government’s own budgetary allocations expose a disconnect between its rhetoric and reality.
Her comments follow the budget presentation by Finance Minister Dr Cassiel Ato Forson on Tuesday, March 11.
According to her, the budget fails to align with the government’s promises and could further destabilise the economy rather than put it on a recovery path.
Ms Osei Asare pointed out what she said are inconsistencies in the government’s financial planning, citing poor fund allocation and unrealistic revenue projections as major concerns.
“The government’s own budgetary allocations expose the disconnect between rhetoric and reality. The lack of consistency, misallocation of funds, and unrealistic revenue projections threaten Ghana’s economic recovery,” she stated.
She argued that while the government speaks of economic stability and growth, the figures in the budget do not support those claims.
She further warned that instead of steering Ghana towards financial stability, the budget risks deepening economic uncertainty.
“Instead of a true reset, this budget risks worsening economic instability,” she noted.
According to her, the government’s approach to fiscal planning lacks a credible framework for sustainable recovery, and without major adjustments, the country could face more economic difficulties.
Ms Osei Asare called on policymakers and stakeholders to critically examine the budget and demand greater transparency and accountability.
She urged the government to present realistic financial plans that reflect the true state of the economy rather than relying on optimistic projections.
“Ghanaians deserve a budget that is honest, practical, and capable of delivering real economic relief,” she concluded.
