Accra Lions produced a spirited performance to secure a hard-fought victory over Nations FC at the WAFA Park, with Lucky Nwafor’s early goal proving decisive.
The match was characterised by Lions’ relentless energy and determination as they sought to overturn their poor start to the season.
From the opening whistle, the home side dominated proceedings, pressing high and forcing Nations FC into costly errors. Their persistence paid off in the 17th minute when Nigerian forward Lucky Nwafor capitalised on a defensive mistake.
He outmuscled his marker and drilled a precise low shot into the net to give Lions the lead.
Despite Nations FC’s attempts to respond, they were thwarted by goalkeeper Daniel Afful, who delivered an inspired performance.
The Ghana youth international made a crucial save late in the first half to preserve his side’s advantage.
The second half mirrored the first, with Lions maintaining their intensity. Nwafor came close to doubling his tally, but it was Afful’s brilliance that kept the momentum in Lions’ favour.
A stunning save early in the half denied Nations FC an equaliser, leaving the visitors visibly frustrated.
As the clock ticked down, Accra Lions displayed exceptional defensive discipline, repelling every attack from Nations FC to see out the game.
The victory, only their second of the campaign, provided a much-needed boost for Accra Lions as they look to climb the league standings.
