An impressive performance ensured Asante Kotoko inflicted on Karela United their first home defeat of the Ghana Premier League season on Sunday afternoon.
Karela boasted a 100 per cent record coming into the clash with six wins out of six games but suffered a 2-0 defeat thanks to goals from Imoro Ibrahim and Kwame Poku at the Crosby Awuah Memorial park in Aiyinase.
Kotoko go top of the league for the first time this season while Karela, who were leaders before kickoff, drop to third.
The Porcupine Warriors did not make a great start and had goalkeeper Razak Abalora to thank for not conceding.
They recovered and took the lead few minutes to halftime through Ibrahim Imoro, who fired a low driven shot into the net. Imoro did not celebrate his goal against his former club.
Kotoko extended their lead courtesy Kwame Opoku after the hour mark. The striker produced a superb finish to take his tally to seven goals.
Kotoko prevented Karela from scoring at home for the first time this term.
In other games played on Sunday afternoon, WAFA suffered their second straight defeat as they lost 1-0 in Dormaa to Aduana Stars. Emmanuel Osei Baffour scored the only goal in the second half.
Obuasi-born forward Kwaku Karikari scored as Liberty Professionals earned a 1-0 win against AshantiGold. The Scientific Soccer lads have ended their six-game winless run while the Miners are now without a win in five games.
Bechem moved to second with an impressive 3-1 win over Great Olympics. The defeat is the first for interim head coach Yaw Preko.
Dreams extended their unbeaten run to seven games with a 2-0 victory at Eleven Wonders in Techiman.
