The Member of Parliament for Ayawaso Central, Henry Quartey, has presented an amount of GH8,800.00  to some victims of the Circle fire disaster.

Each of trader received a support of GHC2,000. The money is from the MP’s Common Fund.

On May 25, 2023, fire ravaged a number of shops and goods around the Kwame Nkrumah Interchange area close to the Tiptoe Lane.

The MP, who double as Greater Accra Regional Minister, visited the scene to offer them some support and promised to assist them financially.

Presenting the money to the beneficiaries, Mr Quartey said it is imperative for market Queens, traders and assemblies to work together.

He said the Municipal Authorities, District Assemblies, and the National Fire Service should move to market places nationwide to educate traders on basic fire safety techniques to prevent the fires or extinguish them when they start.

The MP plans are underway for both the Mallam Atta market and the Kwame Nkrumah Interchange area to have modernised markets.

Mr Quartey was accompanied by the Municipal Chief Executive of the Ayawaso Central Assembly, Mohamed Quaye and his technical team.

Chairman of the  Circle Traders Union, Nana Kwame Boakye praised the MP for the timely support which he says will give them some relief.

Madam Dorcas Ofori, who lost her two shops and goods worth over GHC100,000,00, thanked the MP for the support .

She said since she started her business at the Kwame Nkrumah Interchange many years a go, this was the first time she had received support as a victim of a fire outbreak.

She, however, expressed concern about how some banks are chasing them for their monies, saying it worsens their situation. She thus appealed to individuals and corporate bodies to come to their aid.
