The Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC) has restored all services to the University of Cape Coast (UCC) following the resolution of a dispute over the Vice Chancellor’s retirement.
The decision comes just days after GTEC withdrew services to the university on September 19, citing Vice Chancellor Professor Johnson Nyarko Boampong’s refusal to comply with its directive on compulsory retirement age.
The sanctions included halting the processing of accreditation requests, salaries, GETFund support, research allowances, recruitment clearances, and other services.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, September 24, and signed by Acting Director of Corporate Affairs Jerry Sarfo, GTEC announced the immediate restoration of services after UCC provided evidence of compliance with the directive.
The statement noted that Prof. Boampong had taken the matter to court and confirmed that UCC has been reinstated on the GTEC website as a fully accredited institution.
"Please be informed that the University of Cape Coast (UCC) has been put back on the GTEC website as a fully accredited institution.
“We are grateful to the Registrar and management of UCC for their cooperation during the period,” the statement added.
