Police in the Gushegu District of the Northern region says they are yet to ascertain the facts that led to the death of 25-year old, Abdulai Sulemana in Karaga.
The Gushegu Divisional Command which has oversight responsibility of the Karaga district says they have begun an investigation into the matter.
According to the Divisional Police Commander, ASP Thomas Tolasi, there are two accounts of the shooting incident.
In one account, the deceased's friend whose name is yet to be determined accidentally shot him.
According to this version of events, the two were transporting a canopy from Bagurugu to the next community, while toying with a locally manufactured gun which was accidentally triggered, killing the deceased.
ASP Tolasi said the other account however places the gun in the deceased's hand.
According to that account, the deceased himself was holding the gun when it went off and killed him in the process.
He said the police have launched investigations into the matter noting that the deceased's friend has since absconded.
ASP Tolasi said the body of Abdulai Sulemana has been deposited at the Tamale Teaching Hospital for a postmortem.
