Hajia Safia Mohammed has officially resigned from her position as the National Coordinator of the Ghana School Feeding Programme (GSFP), with effect from 24th February 2025.
Her resignation letter, dated 12th February 2025, was addressed to the Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection (MoGCSP), through the Chief Director of the Ministry.
A portion of the letter read: "I write to officially notify your esteemed office of my resignation as the National Coordinator of the Ghana School Feeding Programme, effective 24th February 2025. I am grateful for the opportunities I have had while serving in this role, and I take pride in the accomplishments and progress made by our team during my tenure."
“However, I have decided to pursue new opportunities, which necessitates my resignation." She said.
“Thank you all for the remarkable working relationship, and I hope the Programme continues to build upon the success and structures we have established in order to achieve the shared objectives of the GSFP" she lamented.
Hajia Safia Mohammed, who is currently the Deputy National Women's Organiser of the NPP, was appointed as the National Coordinator of GSFP in 2023 by former President Nana Akufo-Addo, to succeed the late Mrs. Gertrude Quashigah.
Since assuming office, Hajia Safia has worked tirelessly to sustain and enhance the social intervention programme, which now provides meals to over four million children in deprived public basic schools across the country.
She has streamlined the operations of the GSFP and successfully introduced a new payment system to ensure prompt payment of arrears to caterers.
This has commendably reduced or eliminated the usual protests, demonstrations, and nationwide strikes by the GSFP caterers.
