Former Black Stars defender Hans Adu Sarpei has weighed in on Ghana’s performances during the March international friendlies against Austria and Germany.
Ghana suffered a heavy 5–1 defeat to Ralf Rangnick’s Austria before narrowly losing 2–1 to Germany in the closing stages just days later.
Sarpei expressed disappointment with the manner in which Ghana conceded the late goal against Germany but acknowledged that the team showed improvement after the defeat to Austria.
“Germany are a very good team, so losing 2–1 is not necessarily a bad result. However, when you are level going into the final minute, you need to fight to at least secure that one point.
After the 5–1 defeat to Austria, the response we showed against Germany was encouraging. We played much better, but there is still room for improvement.”
Ghana Head Coach Otto Addo was fired after the two games, leaving the Black Stars without a coach, 70 days to the start of the competition.
