The Methodist Bishop for Kumasi is urging government to hasten slowly in lifting restrictions on schools and other public gatherings.

Rev. Christopher Nyarko Andam said it is very risky for government to lift the ban on schools amid increasing cases of the Covid-19 pandemic.

“It’s unfortunate students are currently not in school but lives are important. If government considers education more important and asks students to resume school, it will not help,” he told Luv FM's Erastus Asare Donkor.

Schools are yet to be reopened after President Nana Akufo-Addo announced a ban on all activities that required social gathering.

He ordered the closure of all schools and universities in the country as a move to stem the spread of the coronavirus pandemic.

Although there have been other alternatives deployed by government and various schools including having classes online, Rev. Andam said it is advisable that the ban is held at least, until the impact of Covid-19 is drastically reduced.

He also called for public cooperation with government in its effort towards a decision to keep the country safe from Covid-19.

“Once the health experts are advising the president I know very soon we will be able to put the spread of the virus under control to a minimum point, if not eradicating it totally.

“When that point comes then I think the Ministry of Education will have a program of bringing things to normal,” he said.
