Seventy-five ministers of the Methodist Church Ghana were ordained on Sunday, 24 August 2025, after completing three years of probation. The service took place at the University of Cape Coast in the Central Region.
Each minister received a Bible and a certificate as part of the ordination. The ceremony, described as solemn but memorable, was attended by current and past executives of the church, bishops, families of the ordinands, and members from across the connexion, many of whom wore the church’s blue cloth.
The Presiding Bishop of the Methodist Church Ghana, Most Rev Prof Johnson Kwabena Asamoah-Gyadu, who officiated the ordination, explained that ministers are ordained after prescribed training and are considered agents of the church. He said their role is to provide leadership to God’s people by example, preach the Word, and administer the sacraments.
Praying for the new ministers, he asked that they grow in grace and serve faithfully. “May they boldly proclaim the Gospel, rightly administer the sacraments, and offer spiritual sacrifices in service to all people,” he said. He also urged them to be shepherds of the flock, strengthen the weak, and reach out to the lost and outcast.
Preaching on the theme “The Move of the Spirit” with the subtitle “Revival, Renewal and Restoration”, Most Rev Prof Asamoah-Gyadu cautioned the deposit pulsa tanpa potongan ordinands against claiming supernatural powers from the pulpit. He stressed that the extraordinary power of ministry comes only from God. “We are fragile, simple jars of clay. If you are constantly conscious of that, you will constantly rely on the sovereign power of God,” he said.
The Administrative Bishop, Right Rev Dr William A. Mpere-Gyekye, presented the candidates, noting that they had been examined and found sound in learning and devout in life. The church’s conference had also received them into full connexion before their ordination through prayer and the laying on of hands.
