The High Court has today, July 11, dismissed the application of stay filed by Assin North MP James Gyakye Quayson in his ongoing criminal case.
According to the Court, the arguments made by his counsel do not meet the threshold required for his application to be granted.
However, his lead counsel Tsatsu Tsikata in expressing his disappointment with the ruling announced their intention to file an application with the Court of Appeal, seeking a stay of proceedings.
Mr Tsikata has submitted a request for the court to halt proceedings to allow the Court of Appeal to review the trial judge’s decision to conduct the case on a daily basis.
Mr Quayson asked the Court for an order to stay the proceedings in the court pending the determination of the appeal filed in the Court on June 27, 2023.
An Accra High Court presided over by Justice Maame Ekue Yanzuh on June 23, 2023, delivered a ruling, dismissing the motion by the applicant herein for a review and/or variation of previous orders of the court dated June 16, 2023.
The applicant, dissatisfied with the ruling, has appealed against the ruling.
But the court has maintained its initial ruling stating that there is no justification for the application.
Already, the NDC group in Parliament were expected to boycott sitting yet again as Assin North due to the case.
