The Ho Teaching Hospital (HTH) in the Volta Region. has inaugurated five state-of-the-art facilities aimed at enhancing healthcare delivery in its catchment area.
The facilities included a CT scan unit, a Family Health Centre, consulting rooms for Psychological Medicine, a Pharmacy Complex, and the Ho Teaching Hospital Annex (IDC) located on Ho-Kpetoe Road.
Speaking at the ceremony, the Chief Executive Officer of HTH, Dr John Tampouri emphasized the significance of the projects in improving service delivery, patient care, and research.
“The commissioning of these projects demonstrates the commitment of the hospital's board and management to an improved service delivery, quality patient care, and the provision of accurate data in our research findings,” he said.

He highlighted the growing number of clients, which has more than doubled in five years from 350,000 in 2019 to over 780,000 in 2024, as evidence of the hospital’s vital role in serving as a regional referral centre to deliver quality healthcare to clients.
Dr Tampouri also noted that the facilities would alleviate pressure on existing infrastructure and human resources and offer comprehensive patient-centred care.
"These facilities will help reduce the stress on staff and make the Ho Teaching Hospital a 'one-stop shop' for our ever-increasing clients," he said.

A member of the hospital’s Board, Dr Prince Sodoke Amouzu highlighted the board's vision of transforming HTH into a medical tourism hub.
“We accepted the challenge of being the foundation Board for the Ho Teaching Hospital. We envisioned making the hospital a medical tourism destination, and I am happy to inform you that we have started taking the necessary first small steps towards achieving this vision,” he said.
Dr Amouzu outlined the board’s achievements, including the restructuring of hospital management, introducing new services, and securing new equipment.
“During our tenure, the hospital received two CT scan machines to support diagnostic services. We also facilitated training for midwives at peripheral centres and donated ultrasound machines to enhance care at community levels," he noted.

He called on stakeholders to support the hospital’s aspirations, emphasizing the potential economic benefits for the region.
The Volta Regional Minister, Dr Archibald Yao Letsa, commended the hospital’s board and staff for their exemplary achievements.
“Please allow me to congratulate the Board, CEO, and all staff of Ho Teaching Hospital for the amazing feat achieved. This indeed is a testament to the fact that this hospital is the leader when it comes to quality health care delivery in the Volta Region”, Dr. Letsa remarked.
He lauded the alignment of the new projects with Sustainable Development Goal 3, which aims to ensure good health and well-being for all by 2030.
“Attaining the objectives of the SDG and Universal Health Coverage can only happen when there is a facelift and increase of facilities in our hospitals,” he said, urging the hospital to establish a healthy maintenance culture to prolong the lifespan of the facilities.
