The Chairman of the Governing Board of the National Peace Council, Reverend Dr Ernest Adu-Gyamfi, has expressed hope that the signing of the peace pact by the various presidential candidates of the upcoming election will not be just another public show, but rather a genuine commitment to lasting peace and meaningful action.
According to him, the council will not encourage the supporters of the various political parties to resort to violence after the general election results have been declared, should they be dissatisfied with the outcome. Instead, they should channel their dissatisfaction through the appropriate means to resolve their concerns.
Speaking at the signing of the Peace Pact event held at the Kempinski Hotel on Thursday, November 28, Dr Adu-Gyamfi expressed his belief that all presidential aspirants in the general election will play their roles effectively, especially after the declaration of the election results.
“It is my hope that signing this pact will not be just another public show, but that all our presidential candidates will play their roles effectively, particularly after the declaration of the election outcomes on December 7, 2024,” he said.
He further appealed to the presidential candidates to refrain from actions that could incite their supporters to engage in any form of violence, adding that any utterances that may ignite heated arguments should be carefully considered.
The Chairman of the Council emphasized that, regardless of the outcome of the election, all aspirants should accept their positions with good faith.
“After December 7, the people of Ghana will be dealing with two positions in most families: those who won the election and those who lost. Those who win must recognize that their victory is only for four years and therefore should be gracious in their victory. I would like to advise that those who win should be measured in their celebration,” he advised.
He also took the opportunity to offer words of motivation to the losers of the upcoming general election.
“To those who will be unsuccessful in the elections, I appeal to you not to grieve for long, for after four years, you will have another opportunity to come back, this time in a stronger position".
He expressed immense gratitude to all the parties and their aspirants for their commitment to the process and called on all Ghanaians to hold Ghana in high esteem.
