Special Prosecutor Kissi Agyebeng has opposed the claims of attacking the Judiciary in his controversial 2023 media address.
Mr Agyebeng insists that he intended to caution Ghanaians about the challenges facing the anti-corruption battle, not to glorify his shortcomings.
In a November 2023 press conference, he expressed dissatisfaction with the judiciary's handling of cases brought by his office, facing setbacks in prosecutions.
Despite facing criticism for perceived shortcomings, while Mr Agyebeng speaking in an interview with Citi FM on Monday, January 8, urged Ghanaians to unite in supporting the fight against corruption, emphasising its detrimental impact on the state.
“I wasn’t looking for sympathy. Those who were responding to me negatively thought I was attacking the judiciary. I wasn’t attacking the judiciary. What I was doing was pointing out things that, in our evaluation, we thought were not right."
“Maybe my demeanor suggested some frustration, but you don’t deliver sombre news with a smiling face. I was sounding an alarm that we ought to rework the way we were doing things otherwise there was this sector that if we continued on the path that we were, from my evaluation, we were going to lose the fight against corruption. I was like a gong-gong beater sounding an alarm," he said.
