Media personality and social media influencer, Nana Abena Korkor Addo, popularly known as Abena Korkor, has joined the call for the validation of marijuana in Ghana.
She also admitted to smoking the herb, although occasionally, as it makes her sleep well and feel relaxed. This comes after she was asked whether she uses the substance.
Abena added that people need to be granted the freedom to smoke because they need to “chill out”.
“When you smoke weed, it makes you sleep soundly. I sometimes smoke. I pray they legalize it because a lot of people need to hit the joint and chill the ‘F’ out,” said the socialite in an interview with Da Don on U Sey Weytin on March 4.
Prior to this, she made her smoking practice public in a response to the controversial politician, Kwame A-plus, after he called her out in a Facebook live video in August 2021 for being a weed smoker.
According to her, the marijuana legalisation advocacy lies on the back of the stress people go through everyday, and would require the mind-altering drug in order to aid them to calm their nerves.
The sexual health consultant brought her game to play by adding that, people should be given the liberty to experience mind-blowing sexual climaxes whenever they please.
“People are stressed-out. People need to calm down. People need to have sex, have an orgasm… like really good sex,” she said.
Over the years, musicians like Kwaw Kese, Shatta Wale, Samini, Rocky Dawuni, Ras Kuuku, and George Jaraah have added their voices to the legalization of marijuana in the country.
Other public figures including, John Dumelo, Deborah Vanessa and David Oscar believe that the country will be on a successful journey of becoming a nation that is beyond-aid, should the bill be passed.
Speaking of the bill, in March, 2020, the Parliament of Ghana passed the Narcotics Control Commission Bill, which allows the use and cultivation of cannabis for industrial and medical use. However, the variety known as ‘hemp’ is not approved by law.
Recreational marijuana remains illegal in the country.
