A Police Station has been commissioned at Tema Community 25 in the Kpone Katamanso constituency of the Greater Accra Region in a bid to beef up security in the area.
The facility, which would serve residents and the business community within the area has a Charge Office, Station Officer’s office, Armoury, Exhibit room, washroom, Female cell, juvenile and male cell all fitted with ensuite washroom, Interrogation rooms, CID Office, Conference room, Commander washroom, Control office for CCTV and Drone operation, Commander Office and charge office.
The Inspector General of Police, David Asante-Apeatu, who commissioned the edifice, said the support of the public to fight crime will be critical to the police administration’s transformational agenda.
He commended the residents for coming together to fund the project and appealed for continuous support in terms of logistics observing that development cannot take place in an insecure environment.
Mr Apeatu urged the police officers in the area to offer the best of services for residents to have confidence and also be reminded of the strong maintenance culture of the service to maintain the edifice.
The chairman of the Community 25 Residence Association, Mr Bagnaba Vangogh, in his address disclosed that the project is “a self-help initiative.”
He explained that security has become a topmost priority of residents hence the need to augment the Government’s efforts to protect the entire citizenry.
He said although the project faced budgetary constraints, the determination and commitment of residents including the support of the Tema Development Corporation (TDC) and the Kpone Katamanso Municipality brought the project to fruition.
The event brought together a high hierarchy of the Ghana Police service including: Mr. James Oppong-Boanuh, the Deputy Inspector General of Police, DCOP Mr. Edward Akrofi Johnson, the Tema Regional Police Commander and DSP Joseph Benefo Darkwah, the Tema Regional Police PRO, who supported Mr. Benny Fiifi Ashun, General Secretary of the Community 25 Association as the MC for the event. Chairman for the occasion was the Chief of Kpone-Nmlisakpo traditional council, Nii Tetteh Ogli II.
