Authorities have initiated two separate investigations to uncover the circumstances surrounding the tragic death of a Form One student at Kalpohini Senior High School in the Northern Region.
According to sources within the Police, the investigation into the incident, which occurred on Sunday, is currently underway, despite the family's reluctance to authorise an autopsy.
Simultaneously, the school has formed a three-member committee to probe the matter further.
Headmistress Hajia Ramatu Awudu says that detailed information would only be provided upon the completion of the investigations.
A Board Member of Kalpohini Senior High School, Salim Abubakar, recounted the incident, revealing that the deceased student, Yakubu Iddi, had been unwell for some time but had not notified school authorities. It was on Sunday, during prep time, that Iddi's deteriorating condition was discovered. Students found him in a distressed state, vomiting, and unable to eat.
Abubakar explained, "When they came back, he had vomited everywhere, so they cleaned him and gave him food, but he couldn't eat. It was at that point that they decided to inform the Senior Housemaster."
While the Senior House Master prepared to attend to Iddi, some students had already moved him to the school gate to seek transportation to the hospital. Tragically, upon arrival at the hospital, Iddi was pronounced dead.
The swift action of the students in moving Iddi prompted tension among local youth, who felt the school authorities were delaying. The matter was reported to the police, and there were threats to attack the Senior Headmaster. However, authorities were able to de-escalate the situation.
Yakubu Iddi, from Wulensi, was laid to rest at the Tuutingli cemetery on Monday.
Meanwhile, in a related incident, another Form One student, Abamwora Peter Aurpio, studying Auto Mechanics at Dabokpa Technical and Vocational Institute, has also passed away.
Northern Regional Director of TVet Service, Musah Iddi, disclosed that Peter was found unconscious in a classroom by his classmates during an evening study session.
Despite being rushed to the Tamale Teaching Hospital, he was pronounced dead on arrival. His body has been transferred to Navrongo in the Upper East Region for burial, with the school providing a casket and transportation.
Authorities have assured that both incidents are under investigation, and efforts are underway to ensure transparency and accountability.
