Dr. Nyaho Nyaho-Tamakloe has heavily criticized the Ghana Football Association for their alleged attempt to impede George Afriyie's effort to file an appeal to contest his disqualification for the presidential seat.
Afriyie was disqualified on Wednesday, September 6 by the Elections Committee, for failure to provide the required number of members to support his candidacy but given a three-day period to contest the decision.
Videos on social media suggest his representatives were initially denied entry at the FA's headquarters to appeal the decision. Afriyie released a statement after filing and delivering the appeal to confirm the incident.
The GFA is yet to react on the accusation.
Dr. Nyaho Nyaho-Tamakloe described the incident as "unfortunate and shameful".
"The FA is a democratic institution and such a practice does not augur well for the democratic institution they see themselves to be," He told JoySports.
"That conduct to me was very shameful. It looks as if the principles and statutes of the FA are not being respected. That is shameful and unfortunate."
The former President of the Association further entreated the current officials at the FA to be fair towards the upcoming elections.
"Elections must be conducted on an even playing field . When that is not done, it ceases to be an election."
The election, which was slated for September, 27 in Tamale, is currently indefinitely suspended after King Faisal placed an injunction against the event at the Accra High Court.
The date for the hearing of the case is set for September 19.
