As expected the declaration of the NDC’s Prof. Mills as president-elect of Ghana has been greeted with mixed feelings.
While supporters of the NDC are basking in victory, their NPP counterparts are sulking and agonizing over their electoral defeat of their candidate, Nana Akufo-Addo.
According to Joy FM’s Volta Regional correspondent, Agbeko Ben-Coffie, supporters of the NDC in its strong hold of the Volta Region had a carnival following the declaration.
They poured into streets and street corners to jubilate and celebrate the victory by the party.
According to Ben-Coffie there were mock funerals organized for the NPP.
Speaking to Joy FM shortly after the results were declared, obviously elated National Chairman of the NDC, Dr Kwabena Adjei gave an indication the party will be pursuing the allegations of electoral fraud leveled against the NPP in the Ashanti region.
He said the NDC had investment so much in the country to want to wreck it by litigating unnecessarily.
He charged the media to investigate any allegations of vote rigging by any political party whether in opposition or in government.
In what appears, a reconciliatory message, the Deputy General Secretary of the NDC, Elvis Afriyie Ankrah told Joy FM’s Steven Anti Nana Akufo-Addo lost the election not because he is not a good man but because this was Prof. Mills’ time.
He expressed the party’s gratitude to Ghanaians for giving the NDC the mandate.
Ecstatic crowds gathered at the President-elect’s house to dance and sing away the sweet victory giving the closeness of the race.
