The General Officer Commanding the Northern Command of the Ghana Armed Forces, Brigadier General Matthew Essien on behalf of The Chief of Army Staff, Major General Thomas Oppong-Pepprah, has commissioned a Counselling and Family Life Centre for the Command at the 6 Infantry Battalion Headquarters, Kamina Barracks at Tamale in the Northern Region.
Among other things, the facility is expected to enhance soldier-civilian relations.
The center will ensure periodic counseling to help equip soldiers to behave more professionally and improve their performance.

When highlighting the importance of the center for officers, civilian staff, and families under the command, the Director of Army Religious Affairs, Colonel Peter Duodoo, said periodically, "Counselling will no doubt, help equip Soldiers with professional behavior and exceptional performance. I'm assuring troops who would consult the facility of full confidentiality", he indicated.
The Guest of Honour, GOC Northern Command, on behalf of the Chief of Army Staff, Major General Thomas Oppong-Pepprah, commended the Commanding Officer of the 6 Infantry Battalion, Lieutenant Colonel Jerry Ankuyi for initiating and completing the Counselling and Family Life Centre with the support of his officers and men.

"This center, I know very well, will also address the well-being of our troops under Command", Brigadier General Matthew Essien said.
The Commanding Officer 6 Infantry Battalion, Lieutenant Colonel Jerry Ankuyi, on his part, expressed his profound gratitude to the Chief of Army Staff for the establishment of a Counselling and Family Life Centre in Kamina and his continuous support.
He assured the High Command that the facility would be fully utilized to realize its intended objectives.
Present at the event were the Air Force Base Commander, Air Commodore Joshua Mensah-Larkai, the Command Logistics Officer Colonel Francis Bannerman, and other key staff appointments at the Command.
