52-year-old Kumasi businessman, Paul Acheampong, last Tuesday, allegedly committed suicide in his bathroom.
The deceased, who was the owner of I.K. Microfinance Limited in Kumasi, allegedly hanged himself with a nylon sponge around 2:30 p.m. in the family house at Kwapra.
Shortly before he committed the act, Acheampong was said to have been in the company of his wife and his 17-year-old son, Amos Acheampong, when he left to take a shower.
Although the reason for hanging himself is not clear, some relations and the police believe that the deceased’s inability to settle the withdrawal demands of his clients might have necessitated that action.
The Suame Divisional Police Commander, Chief Superintendent Afriyie Sakyi, told the Daily Graphic that initial investigations had revealed that the deceased operated his microfinance company at the Suame Magazine.
He said further investigations revealed that the deceased, who was an elder of the Church of Pentecost at the Kwapra Assembly, had not been able to meet the demands of withdrawals from his clients.
Mr Sakyi said the police suspect that his inability to honour his financial obligations to his numerous clients might have caused the deceased to take the easy way out: hang himself.
The family of the deceased is yet to recover from the shock and no one was willing to talk reporters.
They also refused to provide any picture of the deceased for publication.
