The Roads and Highways Minister has expressed strong dissatisfaction over the last-minute approval of an 80-kilometre road reconstruction project from Sampa to Jinijini at a cost of ¢800 million in 2024.
The Minister described the move as irresponsible and lacking due diligence, questioning the rationale behind awarding such a significant contract in the final moments of the previous administration.
Speaking on the matter, the Minister criticised the decision, arguing that such a major project required proper planning, transparency, and accountability to ensure value for money.
He noted that the hasty nature of the contract raised concerns about procurement irregularities and potential financial mismanagement, calling for a thorough review of the award process.
Mr Agbodza further assured the public that the current administration is committed to ensuring prudent financial management in road infrastructure development.
The Minister stated that while the Sampa-Jinijini road is crucial for economic growth and regional connectivity, it is imperative to ensure that all contracts are awarded based on due process and national interest rather than political expediency.
The Minister also hinted at the possibility of re-evaluating the contract to determine whether it meets the necessary technical and financial standards.
He reaffirmed the government's commitment to completing critical road projects while ensuring that public funds are used efficiently and transparently to benefit the people of Ghana.
