The fight against illegal mining also known as 'galamsey' has taken a dramatic turn after President Akufo-Addo announced the withdrawal of the Operation Vanguard team from their base in March, 2020.
Whereas the news have been met with satisfaction from environmental groups such as the Africa Centre for Energy and Environmental Sustainability, others are worried the withdrawal of military personnel will cause the escalation of illegal mining activities.
