Winners of the 2021 edition of the Luv FM High School Debate, have safely journeyed back home from their all-expense paid trip to Dubai.

The ladies from St. Monica’s SHS beat their contender, Prempeh College at the grand finale of the competition to clinch the ultimate title.

As part of the prizes for the winners, the best debating school embarked on an all-expense paid trip to Dubai, UAE sponsored by Adansi Travel.

The one-week vacation saw the ladies dine as they cruised on a boat. They also embarked on educational tours around the resplendent city of Dubai.

Speaking with the host of Luv In The Morning, David Akuetteh, one of the contestants, Matilda, said they had hoped the trip would not end.

“It was an amazing experience altogether. We were actually sad when we were returning.

“The people of Dubai were receptive and we enjoyed some Ghanaian tunes from the band at the restaurant,” she said.

Other past contestants shared some experiences on how beneficial the competition has been.

Anasthasia, now a first year Public Administration student of the University of Ghana, disclosed the competition has honed her debating skills.

“I still debate at the University because of this exposure. It has helped me a lot in public speaking and to know more about the world and even think wider.

“The foundation given me through this debate has afforded me enough leverage to move on in life,” she said.

Next edition of the debate

The 2022 edition of the Luv FM High School Debate is slated to commence in May, 2022.

Over 100 schools are anticipating their participation in this year’s edition to display their great wits in debating ideas for national development.

However, the reigning champions are poised to defend the title as the best Ashanti regional orators.

President of the St. Monica’s Old Students Association - Kumasi chapter, Comfort Asante, assured that a research centre has been constructed for this purpose.

“We’ve started grooming the upcoming ones. The current contestants are going to research extensively and way earlier to increase their chances of winning each contest.

“We want to defend the title for the second time so it becomes a record,” she said.
