President John Mahama has declared three days of national mourning in honour of the late former First Lady, Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings, whose passing has been met with deep sorrow across the country.
The period of mourning will be observed from Friday, October 24, to Sunday, October 26, 2025.
In a presidential declaration issued from the Jubilee House, President Mahama described Nana Konadu as a distinguished national figure who devoted her life to public service, women’s empowerment, child welfare, and social justice.
He acknowledged her legacy as one defined by courage, compassion, and an unwavering commitment to Ghana’s development.

President Mahama has directed that all national flags fly at half-mast across public institutions, government offices, diplomatic missions, and official establishments in Ghana and abroad during the mourning period.
The president also encouraged citizens to reflect on the former First Lady's life of dedicated service and the impact she made on generations of Ghanaian women and children.
The government has extended its heartfelt condolences to the Rawlings family and all who are grieving the loss.
“Let this declaration stand as a mark of our nation’s gratitude and respect for her exceptional contribution to Ghana's development and democratic journey,” the statement noted.
Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings served as First Lady from 1981 to 2001, during which she became a central advocate for women's rights and founded the 31st December Women’s Movement.
