President John Mahama has reaffirmed his commitment to the completion of vital health infrastructure projects in the Ashanti Region.
During a courtesy visit to the Jubilee House by the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, Mr Mahama outlined specific projects his administration intends to prioritise as part of a broader effort to upgrade the region’s public infrastructure, particularly in the health and road sectors.
“In the health sector, we will continue and complete the Sewua and Afari military hospitals,” Mr Mahama stated. “We will also continue and complete the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital maternity and children’s blocks.”
The facilities in question have long been flagged by health professionals and residents alike as essential to improving healthcare delivery in the Ashanti Region, which is home to some of the busiest medical centres in the country.
The Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH), in particular, serves not only the region but also patients from across the middle and northern belts of Ghana.
The maternity and children’s blocks have suffered years of stalled construction and underfunding, leading to overcrowded conditions and limited capacity.
Road Infrastructure Also in Focus
Mr Mahama further noted that several road infrastructure projects are also planned for continuation or commencement under his proposed development programme for the Ashanti Region.
“These and many more projects in the road sector are planned to upgrade the general infrastructure of the Ashanti Region,” he said.
