In a night that celebrated Ghana’s finest minds and boldest innovators, Michael Abbiw, Chief Executive Officer of MGA Consulting Ghana Limited and the President of the Chartered Institute of Marketing, Ghana, was honored as one of the Most Influential Corporate Leaders of the Decade 2025 at the Prestigious Ghana Entrepreneurs Awards 2025.
The recognition crowns more than two decades of visionary leadership, resilience, and transformational impact across Ghana’s business and corporate landscape.
A Visionary Rooted in Resilience
Born into a family of twelve in Mamobi and later moving to Awoshie, Michael’s life story is a powerful testament to determination, faith, and hard work. His entrepreneurial journey began at the age of 16, when he boldly took charge of his family’s small corn mill operation. By 17, he was fully independent paying his own school fees and sustaining himself through sheer grit.
“Survival wasn’t about what you had, but what you could create, “he said.
From carrying gas cylinders at a fuel station to funding his education at Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), where he graduated with First-Class Honors, Michael’s journey reflects an extraordinary rise powered by perseverance and vision.
Academic and Professional Excellence
A consummate academic and lifelong learner, Michael holds an MPhil in Entrepreneurship and Corporate Strategy from Methodist University, Ghana, an MBA in Business Administration from KNUST, and a Postgraduate Diploma from the Chartered Institute of Marketing (UK). He is a Chartered Marketer, a Fellow of the National Institute of Marketing Nigeria (FNIMN), the Chartered Institute of Marketing, Ghana (FCIMG), the Institute of Directors (FIoD), and the Chartered Institute of Leadership and Governance (FCILG).
Beyond the titles, he is a Certified Mentor and Certified Governance Expert from London Business Training & Consulting, credentials that reflect his commitment to leadership grounded in ethics and impact.
The Architect of MGA Consulting’s Transformation
Under Michael’s leadership, MGA Consulting Ghana Limited has evolved from a small startup into a continental consulting powerhouse, offering expertise in Human Resource Solutions, Capacity Building, Research and Development, Entrepreneurial Support, and Outsourcing Consultancy Services.
The company’s footprint now extends beyond Ghana, with a growing presence in Nigeria, where MGA Consulting successfully launched training programs that attracted strong participation and rave reviews.
But the road wasn’t easy. In 2015, MGA nearly collapsed due to failed hire-purchase ventures. “The darkest moment came when even friends wouldn’t answer our calls,” Michael recounts. Yet by 2020, through persistence and faith, MGA Consulting secured major partnerships with GIZ and the World Bank, catapulting it back to life.

Today, MGA Consulting is a trusted research partner for institutions such as the National Insurance Commission and the UNDP, and the driving force behind flagship national initiatives like the Ghana Digital Innovation Week (GDIW) and the National Sales Leaders Conference (NSLC), two of Ghana’s most influential platforms advancing innovation and sales leadership.
Leadership Across Boardrooms
Michael’s influence extends far beyond MGA. He currently serves as:
- National President and Chairman of the Governing Council of the Chartered Institute of Marketing, Ghana (CIMG)
- Independent Board Member of the Ghana Association of Savings and Loans Companies (GHASALC)
- Board Chairman of Securisk Insurance Brokers Limited
- Board Member of Built Financials
- Board Member of e-Crimes Bureau
In every capacity, he has proven himself a strategic thinker, reformer, and mentor dedicated to institutional excellence and sustainable growth.
A Maverick with a Mission
Michael’s professional journey is deeply intertwined with his mission to develop people and empower leaders. Over the years, he has trained over 500 professionals, authored several training manuals, and delivered numerous lectures that blend theory with real-world business insight.
He believes leadership must be human-centered. “True success isn’t in the titles or accounts,” he says, “but in how many lives you elevate along your climb.”
Why He Deserves This Honor
Michael Abbiw’s recognition as one of Ghana’s Most Influential Corporate Leaders of the Decade 2025 is not merely a reflection of his professional accomplishments; it is a celebration of his character, resilience, and transformative leadership.
From building businesses that create jobs to influencing national policy conversations, from mentoring the next generation of leaders to serving on critical boards that shape Ghana’s economic landscape, Michael Abbiw has consistently demonstrated that leadership is service, not status.
His story from a determined young boy in Mamobi to one of Africa’s most respected corporate minds embodies the spirit of the Ghana Entrepreneurs Awards: courage, innovation, and purpose-driven success.

A Legacy of Impact
As the applause from the awards night fades, one truth remains clear: Michael Abbiw’s story has only begun a new chapter. His vision for the next decade includes scaling MGA Consulting’s model across ECOWAS, using the MGA Foundation to support youth entrepreneurship.
For Michael Abbiw, every achievement is a reminder that humble beginnings are not a limitation; they are the foundation for greatness.
