The Senior Midwifery Officer at the Labour Ward of the Tamale Teaching Hospital (TTH), Zainab Adam has advocated for beds to augment the limited number at the labour ward of the hospital.
According to her, because the hospital does not operate the 'no bed no admission' policy, sometimes the pregnant women have to lay on the floor due to inadequate beds.
Madam Adam said this when MTN Ghana donated hampers to women who put to bed on December 25 and 26 at the hospital.
MTN Ghana has an annual activity which involves presenting hampers to women who deliver during Christmas. The hampers contain the basic necessities for every nursing mother.

It was therefore a moment of joy for these women when the 'MTN train' stopped at the TTH to distribute the hampers. Madam Adam, who received the hampers on behalf of the nursing mothers, thanked MTN for the support and appealed for mattresses.
“As you can see, some of the mothers are on the floor. So if we can get some mattresses, it will help us in the delivery of our services, especially when they come in their numbers like this. We do not do 'no bed no admission' hence whoever comes here, we receive her so that’s how come you are seeing our mothers on the floor," she said
According to her, this is the peak month when they receive more delivery cases and called on benevolent organizations to come to their aid.

“In this month, we receive more deliveries. It is our peak month and because we have inadequate beds, we have to put them on the floor. So we call on Government and anybody who can help to come to our aid," Madam Adam said.
She revealed that nineteen babies were delivered between December 25 and 26 - eleven males and eight females.
The Regional Branch Manager for MTN Ghana, Kwami Aseye said the company is committed to supporting these women and the hampers demonstrate this.

He said 2021 is unique because MTN has extended the gesture to twelve other hospitals in the five regions of the North.
”We believe that Christmas is also a season of giving and sharing and so doing this for our mothers, is just to put smiles on their faces as they also share in the joy of the season," he added.
Mr. Aseye noted that MTN Ghana is committed to supporting the health sector.
“MTN Ghana is committed to health, education and economic development. So anything around these areas, we give it a lot of priority. So I will communicate to leadership to see how best we can help address the challenges raised,” he added.
