Telecommunication giants MTN Ghana, has launched its Y’ello Care employee volunteering programme after two years of Covid-19.
The annual event aims to secure high participation levels of MTN Ghana staff in high impact social projects to uplift and empower the local communities in which the company operates.
The ‘21 days Y’ello Care Campaign’,starts on June 1, 2023 until June 21, 2023. It is under the theme “Empowering Communities to Drive Economic Recovery”.
The aim is to inspire MTNers to heed the call to upskill local communities in order to drive economic activity and participation through focusing on digital skills training and digital job creation. This is linked to MTN’s strategic priority to build digital skills for digital jobs aligned to the company’s Ambition 2025 Strategy.
Speaking at the launch, Chief Cooperate Services and Sustainability Officer of MTN Ghana, Adwoa Afriyie Wiafe said this year's project will focus on young entrepreneurs especially women and differently abled to unlock growth and job creation for communities.
“This year we are focusing on the youth, women and differently abled. MTN is moving to digital so we want to train them in digital skills to be able to help them, whether they are engaged in business or even education. We are looking at how they can leverage on digital skills to help in grow their businesses”.
She stressed that “digital skills have become foundational in our everyday lives therefore MTN is hoping to bring our communities along".
The ‘21 days Y’ello Care Campaign’ which has been going on for 16 years now hopes to target as many people as possible in all Ghana’s 16 regions.
The “21 Days of Y’ello Care” is a competition amongst MTN operations to secure the highest number of staff involved in volunteerism and initiating projects with remarkable impact. The country with the highest staff participation wins the prize money of $100,000 to be reinvested in community projects.
Since its inception in 2007, the initiative has impacted millions of people and communities across the continent of Africa.
