The National Disaster Management Organization (NaDMO) has presented relief items to the people of Chamba, in the Nanumba North Municipality of the Northern Region.
This follows a rainstorm disaster that hit the town 3 weeks ago, destroying 548 houses, public buildings (including schools), and the police station.
The storm pulled down electricity polls, plunging the area into darkness and disrupting water supply.

A team, led by the Member of Parliament for Bimbilla, and the Director-General of NaDMO Eric Nana Agyeman-Prempeh, visited the area and later presented two truckloads of items including 350 packages of roofing sheets, rice, oil, mattresses, bails of used clothes among others.
While presenting the items, Mr. Agyeman-Prempeh said that this was the first time in the history of this country that a single community had suffered a disaster of this magnitude.
He indicated that "the disaster had attracted the attention of the president who personally showed interest for enough relief to be mobilized for the people".
Eric Nana Agyeman-Prempeh further stated that although the disaster is natural, in some cases they can be prevented.
"The Northern Region is prone to rainstorm disasters because of the few trees but if the people can learn some maintenance culture like mending their roofs, using the right wood and nails, it will go a long way in reducing some of the disasters".
The NADMO Director-General urged the people of Chamba to cooperate with the officials to ensure smooth distribution of the relief items. He also commended the MP for the area, Dominic Nitiwul, for his initial support.
